About Us
St. James' Episcopal Church is built on land originally part of George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon, Virginia. Ground was broken for the church in the early 60's on five acres situated between Mount Vernon and Woodlawn, the home Washington built for Martha's grandchild, Nelly Custis. It is directly off Old Mill Road, reflecting its origins as the route between Washington's home and his grist mill.
