Christian Education

St. James’ welcomes, nurtures, and incorporates children in our worship and community life.  Children develop a sense of St. James’ as their church family and home.  They are encouraged to be acolytes, choir members, ushers and greeters.  We have a dynamic Church school program from infancy through teens.  Our church school is a vibrant community of adults and children who come together every Sunday morning to worship, learn, pray, sing, play games, develop a sense of belonging, and explore what it means to be a child of God.  Our curriculum for infants up through adults, Seasons of the Spirit, uses the cycle of Bible readings from the Revised Common Lectionary and the Seasons of the Church year to provide a unified structure for worship; learning and service.  Children are given the opportunity to experience, interpret, and explore how New and Old Testament stories relate to their own lives as they study the bible.  The Youth class (grade 6 and up) are using “God at the Movies,” a part of the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum planned to be meaningful for the challenges and daily experiences of middle and highschoolers.  Our vision is to provide God’s people with lectionary-based, ecumenical resources that empower all ages to be transformed in Christ as they:

  • explore meaning and mystery in the Bible
  • celebrate in worship, sacraments, education, and service
  • engage in ministries of love, justice, and witness
  • live in inclusive communities of faith, shaped and led by the Holy Spirit.
